The Scouts on Broadway


One hundred and forty-nine years ago this week, Texas Jack Omohundro, Buffalo Bill Cody, Ned Buntline, and Giuseppina Morlacchi made their Broadway premiere in The Scouts of the Prairie (And Red Deviltry As It Is). They had opened in Chicago four months earlier and they had been successful at every stop.


This newspaper ad from the March 29, 1873 issue of the New York Herald announces their run at Niblo's Garden, at the corner of Broadway and Prince Street in New York City. This, the third building on the spot to be called Niblo's Garden, was demolished in 1895.
